Control Electropolishing Corp. requested assistance from ITAC and its partner the New York State Pollution Prevention Institute (NYSP2I) at Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT), to identify opportunities to reduce their environmental footprint as related to wastewater management and water reuse. Specifically, because of the level of dissolved solids in the water CEC would like to recycle, CEC would like to address this concern to see what options exist to reduce the level of dissolved ions and render the water more amenable for reuse in their processes.
Project Objective: Evaluate opportunities to conserve water use and improve the recyclability of wastewater.
Project Benefit: Not only will methodologies to improve the quality of recycled water be investigated, but a broader review of all operations using water will be performed to ensure applicable Best Management Practices are identified and communicated to CEC. Reducing the amount of water required for critical operations typically results in smaller scale, lower cost equipment required to filter the water for reuse.
