Electropolishing for Stainless Steel: The Process and Its Benefits

No matter the application, we at Control Electropolishing understand the need for quality metal parts with a fabulous finish – a finish that is both strong and beautiful.

You want to make sure your metal parts last and can withstand the effects of the elements as well as repeated and vigorous use over time. That’s where our electropolishing services come into play.

What Is Electropolishing? How Does It Work?

Commonly referred to as electrochemical polishing or electrolytic polishing, electropolishing is an electrochemical process where surface layers of material are removed from a metal alloy, such as stainless steel.

As the metal is treated, the process polishes, passivates, and deburrs the part, creating a flawlessly smooth finish that is easy to sanitize and corrosion resistant.

What Are the Benefits of Electropolishing?

Outside of the obvious aesthetic benefits, the electropolishing process vastly improves the life and durability of the metal part.

Only one finishing operation is needed to achieve a smooth, bright, and shiny surface with improved sterilization and further resistance to the impregnation of bacteria. By the end of the treatment, the finished part will not adopt a hydrogen layer that causes embrittlement or leaves an undesired hydrogen residue behind.

What Kind of Metal Parts Can I Have Electropolished?

At Control Electropolishing, we can accommodate a broad range of products with our electropolishing services. Our facility houses large electrochemical tanks used in the electropolishing process, each capable of treating metal parts of a wide variety of shapes and sizes.

The electropolishing process can finish most varieties of stainless steel as well as other metal alloys, such as aluminum and carbon steel. We specialize in stainless steel alloys.
